Recommended by Paige(Collections Manager): I hold in high regard every work by Artemio Rodríguez, and this piece is especially interesting for all of its details.The woman thinks only of money, the devils pull the deceased into the mouth of a monster, and it is rounded out with “Death of the Sinner” on a scroll. I also love how the Latin phrase is rewritten as the much more crass: “Go to Hell”.The artist holds no punches.

It shows the artist's mastery of texture and transparency, even through darkness. He was a key figure to the art community of Oaxaca and is one of my favorite Mexican artists. For me, his works are clearly influenced by Mexican folk culture, imagery, and textures but are also clearly his own."
