When my outlook on the world starts sinking, I often look at Ben Beres's work. I appreciate how direct and cynical he can be – and for me a dose of cynicism usually provides better relief than optimism. This piece has great handmade texture, dark lines, and simple language, giving the feeling that there's someone else trying to grapple with the situation too.

I'm very drawn to Ben Beres' pieces with a single, evocative phrase. It leaves a lot open to interpretation, and the appeal for me is the curiosity I have about what he thinking about or referring to when he made it. I chose this one for its unexpectedly bright colors.

"Asahi’s work perfectly balances technical skill with playfulness. This particular etching is full of graceful arcs and twirls that spin the viewer in towards the town at the center. Asahi uses her signature color palette to create a softness that’s pleasing to look at with tiny pops of color that also serve to direct the viewer’s eye. Each character depicted is given importance and movement - even the buildings seem to be enjoying themselves, tucked between the jumping fish and waves of the water."
