I want to see the world directly with my own eyes. Not rely on someone else's eyes. I want to know well how I feel. That would be essential for me to be able to imagine how others feel. Since I have spent the majority of my time at and around 40 degrees north latitude, the sensations that have seeped into my body are naturally influenced by the nature in the land..

Shigeki Tomura (Japanese, b. 1951) was born in Hachinohe, Japan and now lives and works in Morioka (Iwate Prefecture). Tomura graduated from the Iwate University Department of Art. He has been making prints since 1984. He is best known for his drypoints, drawings and watercolors that are highly detailed and precisely drawn. His work focuses on scenes of nature and the passage of time. In often light, minimalistic images, Tomura’s attention to each bare branch, blade of grass, shadow and gust of wind becomes clear. Tomura has been awarded numerous prizes since 1985 and continues to exhibit works internationally including in Russia, the UK, Germany and the United States.
